What to expect The only scheduled EVENTS are as follows:
Check out the new Christopher O'Brien book "Secrets of the Valley" on paranormal activity in the San Luis Valley. (see below)
Join a group of fun minded people with the Paranormal Research Forum and other curious souls for their 23rd annual trip to explore the possibilities in the universe. The first seven years traveling to a remote area of Utah were lots of fun, eye opening and memorable, meeting lots of fascinating people in the beautiful, desolate and mysterious San Luis Valley. There are many "experiencers" attending this event and it is highly recommended everyone introduce themselves to get to know new friends. Share your interest and personal experiences with others so we can all become more familiar with this amazing unfolding of a new era in the human experience. This two decade old event is open to open-minded but thoughtful and discerning individuals curious to discover, understand and experience more regarding the increasing extraterrestrial interaction on our planet. This is a great chance to get out of town and away from home and routine before the onset of fall and winter. It's extremely affordable and always memorable. You've got a chance to meet some of the most interesting people you've ever encountered and learn much about the beginning of a paradigm shift in the human experience. Those that attended our 2006 trip experienced a couple of "out of this world" light shows. During Friday evening's campfire gathering we had several unexplainable flashes of light that were happening within 10 feet of a number of people followed by a an amazing light display in the night sky that was clearly not a satellite or explainable. One person was fortunate enough to view one of the cantaloupe size streaks of light directly. It was about 15 feet from her and traveled a distance of approximately 10 feet in a swirling path a few feet off the ground. Our 22nd year will again be to the San Luis Valley in South Central Colorado and is certain to prove interesting, beautiful, informative and enlightening as always. We usually have the opportunity to visit with people in the area that have had some very amazing experiences they've been willing to share. It's up to everyone to form their own opinions about what's going on here but I'm certain ALL would agree there are many unexplainable occurrences that continually take place in this unique valley. The San Luis Valley extends from just south of Salida, CO on the north end to Taos, NM at the south. In recent centuries 13 Native American tribes known to have inhabited the valley all realized and held the valley (referred to as The Peaceful Valley" by Native American Tribes) as sacred and having magical or unworldly powers.
On Hwy 285 (very scenic) it takes about 3 1/2 hours from Denver off W-470 and slightly longer on I-25 depending on traffic conditions. Leaving from the southeastern part of Metro Denver could be quicker but that's a tradeoff for the more scenic and relaxing route. Area Map.
Take Highway 17 south from Salida ... also known as "abduction alley"
Location We will again be visiting the Oasis Campground 719-378-2222 (see aerial photo below) immediately south of the Great Sand Dunes National Monument. Traveling south along Hwy 17 (the main north/ south Highway through the San Luis Valley) take Road 6N, located immediately north of the town of Mosca, left (east) about 16 miles. Then turn left (north) at the "T" intersection about 2 miles north to the Oasis Campground on the right (east) side of the road (can't miss it, it's the ONLY thing out there except for the unexplained). Area Map Area Attractions Lots of things to see and do in this beautiful valley including the Sand Dunes, the UFO Watchtower, San Luis (Colorado's oldest town), Zapata Falls (one of the most dramatic in Colorado), the Alligator Farm, Wildlife Preserve and lots more. For a detailed list click here- Area Attractions. Area Paranormal Activity For centuries the San Luis Valley has had a rich history of highly unusual activity reported by at least 13-Native American Indian Tribes, Conquistadors, Miners, Ranchers and other local inhabitants. Unusual occurrences such as hundreds of cattle mutilations, hundreds of documented reports of bizarre flying craft since the mid 1700's, mysterious flying orbs, apparitions, and even a horse that appears to have been dropped from the sky. For a little taste of the highly unusual activity in this area click here San Luis Valley Paranormal Activity and History or More Local Activity or UFO Watchtower
Author/ Noted Speaker Christopher O'Brien is undoubtedly the foremost authority on current and historic paranormal activity in the area. To become more aware of the perpetual documented occurrences of unexplainable activity in the San Luis Valley the Books "The Mysterious Valley" and "Enter The Valley" are excellent reading. His most recent book "Secrets of the Valley" was published May 2007. If you would like to order a signed copy directly from Christopher for $25 which includes postage contact me and I will give you his phone number to order.
Campsites, Cabins and Oasis Lodge 719 378-2900 are available at the Oasis Campground 719 378-2222. Showers, restaurant, convenience store, gas, laundry facilities and more are available at the Oasis. Important UFO Trip Updates (modified April 2010) This laid back fun event continues to attract new friends. Between 100-200 curious souls are expected to join our little outing again this year. Keep checking this portion of the website for any updates.
* Camper Check-In/ Reservations Those intending to camp need to e-mail Rick Nelson at ExplorerExperience@yahoo.com and include:
As campers are arriving check in at the Oasis Camp Store & Restaurant and mention that you are with the UFO Group, "Paranormal Research Forum" or Rick Nelson. We have a special Group Campsite rate of $4 per person per night. They will give you a campsite map and answer any questions. *Kids/ Dogs: Kids have typically not been a part of this event. As the attendance has grown over the years it has become necessary to be more limiting for practical reasons. In general this is an adult experience and kids are not specifically excluded but are discouraged. Thoughts to keep in mind are that they are not disruptive to any presentation, don't create a disturbance at the campsite and that some adults may occasionally (but seldom) use adult language : ). There is plenty for the kids to do though so it won't be restrictive for them. Dogs are definitely not encouraged, but may be considered (please call Rick for special permission). * Saturday Romanek Presentation: Due to the larger number participants we need to hold this event outdoors at the campsite at 10:00 AM- 11:45? AM. Don't forget to bring your chairs, water and a hat (or jacket if it's cooler). This will not be a slide or video presentation because it's outside. Stan will cover some of his most recent experiences and answer questions. Stan Romanek's website is www.StanRomanek.com and his books can be found in most local libraries / purchased online at www. / or some books will be available from Stan at the event. He is completing his second book this summer and filming a documentary about his ongoing experiences. Some of the accounts covered in his writings are from these camping events. These amazing experiences and introductions to UFOs and galactic races/ cultures (according to Mayan history, many of the world's indigenous cultures and other authoritative researchers around the world) occur about every 26,000 years (culminating December 12, 2012). The area we're traveling to is currently and historically rife with UFO and other ongoing paranormal activity. Joining a number of individuals with active extraterrestrial and paranormal encounters add to the likelihood of witnessing an unforgettable event. The experiences on these trips vary from year to year and person to person. Some of the most spectacular and compelling experiences are fleeting and depend on who's noticing or paying attention and how localized the event is. Most of the UFO events are in the sky and for some of those fortunate enough to look immediately, when brought to their attention, get to witness an event that will be etched in their minds forever. Other experiences are much closer and have occurred at the campsite. These experiences have not been traumatic but enlightening. We are all discovering these complex new realities from our own exposures and experiences. So many find this event a comfortable way to potentially learn a great deal about these matters without feeling so vulnerable. * Group Campsite location: We are scheduled to be in Group Campsite #1 at the Oasis campground. Make sure you check in at the camp store and check the bulletin board (outside the store after hours) for any changes or notes for/ from friends. * Weather Equipment Suggestions: The temperatures this time of year are historically in the mid to upper 70's with brief afternoon showers. Temperatures can drop into the mid 40's at night but check the weather link above (under the panorama picture of the Dunes) for more accurate and current local weather conditions. We will be there during a dark phase of the moon which should be great for viewing stars and activity in the night sky over the Dunes. You never know about the weather there so be prepared for hot, cool and/ or wet weather at any time (even in the same hour). Equipment Suggestions include bottled water, camp chairs (extra if you have them), water shoes (for Zapata Falls), towels for the showers, rain gear, walkie-talkies (channel 7- if we use them), binoculars, cameras, video cameras, jacket or warm clothing for Saturday's sky watch and anything else I think of to put on this list later : ) Keep checking! Some cell phone services, like Verizon, is available from time to time but not guaranteed. Most services aren't available in the area so its best to bring a walkie-talkie to stay in touch with the group you might come with.
